The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has raised the alarm that President Muhammadu Buhari plans to rig the 2019 presidential election hiding under the “Operation Python Dance.”
According to the opposition party, Buhari knows he wouldn’t be able to win the coming election free and fair, and as such he is collaborating with military, “to unleash heavy security presence to intimidate, harass and instil fear in voters in PDP strongholds across the country.”h
PDP made this known in a statement on Saturday, saying their investigation also revealed that Buhari has connived with some staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, using soldiers “to provide cover for diversion of electoral materials, and unleash violence in PDP control area.”
See full statement below:
The planned nationwide military operation codenamed, “Operation Python Dance” is a ploy for the failed Buhari to use the military to intimidate voters and rig the 2019 Presidential election, having realized he cannot win in a free and fair contest.
This plot is in consonance with the desperation of Buhari to foist a siege mentality on the nation ahead of the 2019 general elections. The aim is to harass voters and create a sense of escalated insecurity, so as to stalemate the electoral process.
Our investigation shows that part of the plot is to use the military operation as a subterfuge to unleash heavy security presence to intimidate, harass and instil fear in voters in PDP strongholds across the country and allocate votes to Buhari and the APC.
Further investigation reveals that Buhari Is working in cahoot with some compromised officials of the Prof. Yakubu-led INEC to use soldiers to provide cover for diversion of electoral materials, and unleash violence in PDP control areas.
In spanning the military operation to February 28, 2019, President Buhari betrayed his anticipation of public rejection or violence, which can only come when a result that does not reflect the actual wish of the people is announced.
The PDP PPCO, therefore, rejects this deliberate attempt by President Buhari to set our military on collision course with Nigerians, bearing in mind the collateral damage that usually occurs whenever the civilian population clashes with military.
